Thomas Underwood

Thomas UnderwoodThomas Underwood is the Executive Director of the Joint Center on Violence and Victim Studies. He has developed and taught an array of professional development courses related to violence and victim services; and has taught victimology courses for Washburn University and Fresno State University. He has authored, reviewed, and/or edited journal articles and books related to victimology, and has directed several special projects, such as needs assessments, program implementation, and evaluation.

In addition to his experience as an educator, Thomas has extensive experience in the practice and administration of human services and corrections. He has worked in a correctional institution for youth violent offenders, as a probation officer, and in emergency intake and assessment services for a psychiatric hospital and for a community service agency for at-risk children.

Thomas received a Doctorate in Foundations and Adult Education from Kansas State University. His doctoral dissertation was entitled "The Professionalization of Victim Assistance: An Exploratory Study of Attitudinal Dimensions and Factors." He received a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Kansas and a Bachelor Degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice from Washburn University.
